About ISPP

Serving the cause of research and education in the field of Plant Physiology, allied disciplines, and agriculture since 1958.

Our Origin & Heritage

The Indian Society for Plant Physiology (ISPP) established in 1958, is one of the oldest academic societies in India. It owes its origin to the vision and zeal of eminent plant scientists Prof. Boshi Sen, Prof. R. D. Asana, Prof. J. J. Chinoy and Prof. K. K. Nanda and the financial support of the Government of India.

Since its inception, the society has been dedicatedly serving the cause of research and education in the field of Plant Physiology, allied disciplines, and agriculture. The society's headquarters are located at the prestigious National Agriculture Science Centre (NASC Complex) of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi.

Global Footprint: The society is a proud member of the Global Plant Council, an international coalition of plant and crop science societies from across the globe, amplifying Indian research on the world stage.

Our Core Focus

To bring plant scientists together to work synergistically towards solving the pressing problems facing humankind. We aim to generate a critical mass that provides a strong platform for deliberations on crucial issues of agricultural research, education, and extension.

Strategic Policy Inputs

ISPP acts as a bridge between researchers and leadership, presenting unified views of the scientific community as robust policy inputs to planners and decision-makers at both national and international organizational levels.

Scientific Engagements & Symposia

To achieve its broad visionary objectives, the society organizes and supports national and international conferences, seminars, symposia, workshops, and intensive brainstorming sessions covering crucial issues of plant biology and agricultural sciences.

It also actively publishes highly acclaimed peer-reviewed journals and institutional proceedings targeted at the long-term advancement of agricultural research and rural development frameworks.

The Official Journal

The official publication of the society, the Indian Journal of Plant Physiology, was launched in the foundational year of 1958.

Since its rollout, this journal has been published regularly and remains highly acclaimed globally for its rigorous scientific content and wide international indexing.

Recognition & Fellowships

ISPP has instituted various prestigious awards to recognize and promote scientists for their excellent research contributions in the areas of plant sciences and agriculture.

The society has bestowed distinguished fellowships to over 250 eminent researchers during the last fifty years. The council invites fresh applications annually during the window of July / August every year.
