ISPP Young Scientist Awards

ELIGIBILITY AND GUIDELINES

An initiative to encourage early career researchers and recognize their research contribution.

ISPP Young Scientist Awards is an initiative of Indian Society for Plant Physiology to encourage early career researchers and recognize their research contribution in science for the betterment of the society. Each award carries a gold medal, cash award and a certificate. The selection of the candidates will be highly competitive and will be based upon their academic background, importance of the research work and presentation during 6th ICPP-2025.

Candidates interested to participate in young scientist award presentations, must register for 6th ICPP-2025, and submit an abstract and their biodata in prescribed format. Credentials of the applicants will be evaluated by an evaluation panel of eminent researchers with sound academic background in the field. Three highest scoring presentations will be recommended for the following awards.

  • ISPP-ASPB Award
  • Prof M. Udayakumar Memorial Award

Eligibility Criteria for the Awards

  • Maximum age limit 40 years (as on 31.12.2025).
  • Candidate must be a Annual / Life member of Indian Society for Plant Physiology. You may apply for the annual / life membership of ISPP on https://isppsociety.in/membership/.
  • Selected participants would be reimbursed their travel expenditure up to Rs. 5000/- or actuals through AC 3 tier train journey (whichever is lower).

Detailed guidelines

  1. Applicant must register for 6th ICPP-2025 (https://isppsociety.in/icpp-2025) and send the duly filled application along with necessary supporting document and abstract to ispp.58@gmail.com.
  2. Applications will be screened by the evaluation committee and 15 participants will be selected based upon the academic excellence, publications and significance of research findings, for the presentation during 6th ICPP-2025.
  3. Unsuccessful applications will be transferred to poster presentation category and candidate would be eligible to present a poster.
  4. The candidate would have 7-8 minutes to present his/her work, followed by 2-3-minute interaction with the evaluators/audience. Candidate must adhere to the time limit as exceeding the time limit would attract negative marking. Other guidelines will be communicated to the candidate selected for the presentation around 2 week before the conference.
  5. The candidate will be evaluated on the basis of various criteria as defined in score card chart.
  6. Academic excellence weightage would include:
    • >75% (or equivalent) marks at Bachelor level: 1 mark
    • >75%(or equivalent) marks at Master's level: 1 marks
    • National award: 1 marks
    • Ph.D. degree awarded: 2 marks
    • National Fellowship/University Gold Medal: Maximum 5 marks (CSIR, UGC, INSPIRE, Rajiv Gandhi or any other Important National Fellowship; 2.5 marks each)
    • Granted Patents will score 5 marks each while filed patent will be given 3 marks each (Maximum 10 marks).
  7. The applicant must be a member of Indian Society for Plant Physiology. You may apply for the Annual / Life membership of ISPP on https://isppsociety.in/membership/.
  8. Preference well given to applicants who have not previously received an young scientist award from ISPP, will only be considered.
  9. Area of the research should be in-line with the ISPP’s mandate.
  10. Application will not be reviewed if the application is incomplete or received after the submission deadline.
